Combat Integration and Identification Systems (CI&IDS) Lab Revitalization Program (LRP)

Project Description

This new construction project included the development of the site and the construction of a Lab Replacement Program (LRP) Facility at Patuxent Naval Air Station – Webster Field. This was a Design-Bid-Build new construction project for a single-story office 15,000SF Pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) on an undeveloped site. Work included site clearing with a 10 ft site surcharge to compact the existing soils which are near the Chesapeake Bay. Permits included MED, FAA and Department of Forestry before work could start. This work also required significant Geotechnical and Surveyor coordination to ensure settlement occurred per the BOD.

After removal of 10,000 CY of fill spoils from the site, the team built the structural concrete slab which was self-supporting and required reinforcing and pouring of the entire 300 CY finish top slab in one day. Additionally, during concrete installation, the PEMB anchor bolts were placed with quality control and verification by MIG and our surveying team, which allowed for setting of the PEMB steel subframe in a record one day.

Other definable features of work included a structural metal framing, primary and secondary electrical installation, power generator system, wet and electronic fire protection, mechanical and plumbing support in the office and SCIF facilities located throughout the building.

Finishes included a modern and sleek design with significant glazing features along with raised access flooring, LVT, CPT and anti-static VCT wall coverings, painting, and ACT.

Finally, an Electronic Security System (ESS) was installed to support the SCIF room. A STC rated series of overhead roll up doors was installed for access into the SCIF room. An FF&E package was also designed with the BVD process to outfit the space with the desks and other finishes for a completely new construction package.

The overall site development also included full utility infrastructure from the mains along the road to support power, communication, water, fire protection, and sewer. Additionally, an asphalt parking lot, site lighting and a bioretention facility for stormwater treatment was constructed to treat the facility.

This project was an overall success for the NACAD NAVAIR team and was completed with minimal design revisions 150 days ahead of schedule.
